Whether it's a feature, a short film, or a documentary, every project benefits from a strong visual and narrative foundation built and can sometimes even shift the narrative. That process unfolds across three key stages: Part 01 Visual Research Part 02 Creative Storytelling Part 03 Pitch Deck Layout Visual Research [Part 01]&nbsp;Gathering the references that define the world of the film can be something valuable to give visual life to a project that is being showed to potential investors, and also for the director to start painting a clear image on their mind as to what it will actually look like. Many times we have a clear image in our minds and assisting that with accurate imagery is an important moment in the creative process. This means diving into photography, painting, cinema, and culture in general to build a visual language that can serve as an anchor or an aid for the project. Creative Storytelling [Part 02] This is where I put words to the vision. I can either assist the director as a ghost writer or write myself after the vision was shared with me in full. Narrative frames the project, defines its tone, and articulates what makes it worth making.&nbsp; Layout Design [Part 03] Presenting all of that work in a way in which graphic design can work as a language that maintains a relationshp with the concept without distracting from it. This stage begins with a moodboard, a space to gather ideas and explore creative directions, where different concepts are debated and considered. The ones that earn their place make it into the final deck. The three steps are usually done in parallel, not isolatedly from one another. There is a key art direction drawing an intersection between them, crafted in teammwork with directors and producers to provide a creative result that is also aligned with the client’s desires. It is a tightrope, but an exciting one.&nbsp; Mood Film&nbsp;A short audiovisual piece can also be made within this pre-production process to sum up tone, atmosphere, a first approach to the emotional world that will later shape the film. The bar for its capabilities in everything from immersive art to content creation just keeps getting higher and higher while opinions on AI remain divided and plenty of creatives (myself included) feel uncertain about the technology’s potential impacts on society. Within this critical context, there was no doubt a reluctancy at first but as resistance eased off I discovered the potential as an aid to the creative process, specially when guided, curated and tailored by the human mind. Through an archive of scanned imagery, it explores the aesthetics surrounding brutalism, rationalism, and functionalism, merging them with the clarity and structure of Swiss typography. Its texts reflect an ethical stance that understands physical space as a mirror—one through which human beings may observe, question, and recognize themselves. This exploration began with a growing fascination for the urban fabric of Buenos Aires, and with the personal threshold of having enrolled in Architecture right before leaving the city. It seeks to explore the concept of deconstruction through authors from different disciplines who have reflected on themes such as Love, Truth, or Identity (Self), and have somewhat set the stage for us future thinkers. The work poses a variety of philosophical, personal, and often political questions through design, such as: Is it possible to start from a blank page? How can we generate alternative narratives to the hegemonic one (stray narratives)? What does it mean to love someone? Is Truth relative or absolute? These are only some of the inquiries that move the project forward. While answers are not always found, it is almost inevitable that certain values are promoted over others, showing how hard it is to truly reach a complete deconstruction. The formats that make it up are a publication, a web, an audiovisual piece, and some posters. In addition to tracing a route through the different proposed themes, Tabula Rasa also unpins other sub-themes like Memory, Home, Meaning, and notes the existing connections between them. It would be safe to assume that the speed in which a fragment of visual communication reaches its own obsolescence is “normal”, the truth that lies behind it is that graphic design in itself has turned into a devalued currency. As users we have reached a point in which not much, or almost nothing at all, feels as novelty. As designers we have been forced to expand our limits, searching for new ways of interacting with the visual language.Using different styles from the past, present and future, Bunch of Posters is an ongoing project that explores these concepts through the creation of a - pardon my french - shit ton of posters. The questions that arised in the process have not always found an answer, but they have undoubtedly revealed important questions regarding graphic design and visual communication. Does the speed in which a piece is created affect its quality? What is more important: quality or quantity? Its aim was to create a community that could use the power of cinema as a bridge through which to reclaim collectivity during times of solitude— through this collectivity cinema unlocks its power to stir consciousness and transcend the limits of mere entertainment. Starting as a Telegram community, it developed into a series of curated thematic screenings followed by open debates. Once public life resumed, the film club moved to the physical space where it truly belonged. Stegmann https://clarastegmann.org/Collage Collage — Personal In September 1912, Pablo Picasso returns to Paris after a period of intense work with Georges Braque in Sorgues. The exchange between both parties has been later described by Braque as “impossible to understand except for us two”. Window shopping through Parisian stores, Braque finds a wallpaper magasin, where he purchases material to produce the first collage.
